Lupus 4th Annual Walk for a Cure

August 20, 2004 — Northwest Indiana Chapter

The 4th Annual Lupus Walk for a Cure will be held rain or shine on Saturday, October 16th at Countryside Park, 5250 US Highway 6 in Portage. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., and the 5K (3.1 mile) walk will start at 10:00 a.m. This is a non-competitive walk to raise money for lupus awareness, education, support and research.

A donation to participate in the walk is appreciated. The first 200 participants who pre-register by September 24th and submit their donation of $20 will receive a t-shirt and goody bag. Late registrations will be accepted, however, t-shirts cannot be guaranteed after the 24th. Awards will be presented to the individual who collects the most money in pledges and to the team that raises the most money.

Nearly 2,000,000 Americans ? one out of every 185 ? have been diagnosed with this chronic autoimmune disease. Lupus actually tricks the body into attacking itself, which makes diagnosis and treating the disease a very challenging and critical endeavor.

The Lupus Foundation of America, Northwest Indiana Chapter, is the only active chapter in the state that provides awareness and education about lupus, support to people with lupus and their families and advocates for lupus research for the cause of and cure for lupus.
