U.S. Surgeon General to Address City Club of Portland August 13
July 31, 2004 — U.S. Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona will speak before City Club of Portland at a special Friday Forum to be held August 13 at the Governor Hotel in downtown Portland. Carmona’s speech, which is sponsored by NIKE, Inc., will address Undoing the Obesity Epidemic: Making the Connections, Meeting the Challenges.
“By taking simple steps like being physically active every day, eating healthy foods, and not smoking we greatly improve our health and our lives. But today we are seeing our children outgrowing the waists on their pants, before their lengths,” said Carmona. “Too many American children have gone from Generation Y to Generation XL, and this weight gain has long-term health consequences. We are now seeing kids with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and poor overall health. We need to work together across all sectors of American life to address this public health crisis.”
This is a timely and relevant topic for Oregonians given that in 2003 nearly 60 percent of Oregon adults were considered obese or overweight and state epidemiologists called the situation a public health crisis. Since 1980, obesity rates have nearly tripled among Oregon teens and doubled among adult Oregonians.
This week’s Friday Forum, which is open to the public, will be in the third-floor ballroom of the Governor Hotel at 611 S.W. 10th Ave. Doors open at 11:30 AM. The program begins at 12:15 PM and concludes at 1:15 PM. Lunch reservations can be made online at www.pdxcityclub.org or by calling 503-228-7231 by 2 PM Wednesday, August 11. ABOUT THE OFFICE OF THE SURGEON GENERAL
The Surgeon General is often considered the “nation’s doctor.” As part of his duties, he advises the President and Secretary of Health and Human Services on important policy issues. The American people have come to trust and depend on the Surgeon General to give them the best health information available. In times of health crisis the Surgeon General has calmed the public and assured them of the right course of action and the best medical science. A recent poll suggested that the Surgeon General is the individual most trusted by the public to talk to them about health issues.
In addition to being the voice of medical science for the administration, the Surgeon General leads the Public Health Service, one of the seven uniformed services of the United States. Currently there are 6,000 individuals serving Americans in the Public Health Service. Most of them are in the most underserved populations in the country, including rural and inner city health centers and in federal prisons. Others are leading in ground-breaking science and research at places like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and at the National Institutes of Health.
In addition, in this post-September 11th world in which we live, President Bush and Secretary Thompson are committed to making the Public Health Service more responsive to any emergency need that the American public might have. That includes training Public Health Services members to respond to terrorist or natural disasters immediately and effectively. The Public Health Service, under the leadership of the Office of the Surgeon General, is one of the lynchpins in the health care safety net protecting all Americans.

Importance of Amino Acids
Amino Acids:
I have recently started on a naturopathy programme (www.onlinenaturopath.net). I was drawn to the site by a friend who had said that she had been on the programme, which involves taking a drink that you mix up at certain times of the day, as the body has an internal clock and certain functions happen at certain times. Anyway you mix up the drink which is mainly Amino Acids, Herbs, Mineals and Vitamins. I wanted to come off Depo Provera, a contraceptive drug given to those who have Endometriosis. It stops the periods so you dont get the pain. What we dont learn is it stops the body’s natural cycle too, which is the monthly cycle. This is when our body prepares for pregnancy, if we so wish. When we stop this cycle we are interfering with the body. Many will not view it from this angle. Many will not know what is happening all they know is that the pain has lessened as the periods are no longer happening hence the endometriosis is dormant. What actually begins to happen is the bone marrow dries up, the body’s natural cycle is thrown off balance and I dont have to mention the other problems this can cause such as Osteoporosis. I am not a doctor but someone who endeavours to learn about how the body works and what we can do to help it to heal. Amino Acids are very important. They are the building blocks within our body helping cells rebuild, nerves to function, the list is endless. I have been on this programme for 5 weeks now and the main thing I have noticed is a clean feeling. I go to the loo 3 times a day which is something i never did. My body held onto toxins and this could not have been good for me. Its a delicate process. I can feel my body rejuvinating, my skin is the best it has been in a long time. I dont feel so tired. Niggly little aches and pains that I used to have from neck pain, headaches, to cramp in my knees has all vanished and it is thanks to replenishing my body with these vital amino acids. It took me 5 years to reach where I am now. 5 long years of searching for products that can help us. Simplified products that do exactly what they say they do. I have come to the end of my journey searching. Amino Acids have to be a key figure in the diet today, helping to rebuild from within.

Does Nutrisystem Taste Good, Or Even Work For That Matter?
Nutrisystem, one of the leading dieting programs out there right now thanks to mass marketing as well as a convenience that many Americans can’t pass up as far as availability in that busy, hectic world we’ve all created for ourselves, has created quite a buzz online and lots of good and poor reviews have been found online when you search for people’s experiences not only with the results of the system but additionally with their experience as far as the edibility of the food and the ease of sticking with it.
I’ve read that the food isn’t so poor, and easy to follow, but I’ve additionally read scathing reviews about how the foods tastes like sawdust, and has a lot of sodium in it to build up for the lack of flavor. So, I’ve asked a few folks at work that have been on the Nutrisystem plan at one point or another, and I’ve gotten the same mixed reviews.
One person thought the food was perfectly acceptable, but additionally thought the portions were not large decent to be satisfying, which makes sense considering the way we lose weight is by cutting caloric intake, and it’s essential to do portion control to do that. Another person said that she unwrapped one of the meals, I believe it was supposed to be a hamburger with a bun, and was so sickened by how it looked and smelled that she couldn’t even bring herself to eat it.
It’s hard to know whether food is good, or good to you, until you actually try it yourself. Nutrisystem certainly isn’t cheap, but whether you compare it to what you’d spend on your own healthy meals per day, it might be right up there with that, considering the higher costs of food these days.
I think it’s around ten dollars per day to be on Nutrisystem, but that’s the last I checked. I’m certain they run promotions periodically to get more society on board. My concern with these meals is that they really aren’t nutritional. I mean, whether they’re mailed to you, how many preservatives and chemicals must they have in them?
Also, where does the fresh fruit and veggies come in? I’m a firm believer that fresh food is the best, most fulfilling food and is essential in faraway term weight loss, so that is an element that is obviously lost from Nutrisystem as far as I know.

The Miraculous Message of Water
Water has a message for humanity. Water is telling us to look at ourselves. When we look through water at ourselves, the message becomes crystal clear. The quality of human life is intimately connected with the quality of our water. The body is like a sponge or a honeycomb. It is composed of chambers called cells that hold liquid.
We Are 70% Water
You may know that the mature human body consists of 70% water, and that the earth is called the “Water Planet” because 70% of its surface is covered with water. You may also realize that water is the source of all life on the planet?its purity and integrity being vital to all forms of life. But did you know water gives us factual evidence that human vibrational energy affects the structure of water?the same water that comprises 70% of our body and covers 70% of our planet’s surface?
Each Water Crystal is Unique
Water in the form of snow has been falling on the earth for a few million years, and each crystal has a different, unique shape and structure. If you freeze water and take a picture of the crystals that form, you get information about the water. Seeking a way to evaluate the quality and purity of water, a creative and visionary Japanese, Masaru Emoto, has taken over 10,000 photographs of frozen crystals of water. He has discovered fascinating differences in the crystalline structure of water from different sources and under different conditions. Water from clear, pure mountain springs and streams have an exquisitely-formed, geometric design in its crystals. Polluted water from industrial areas and stagnant water from storage dams and pipes have distorted, ill-formed crystalline structures.
Water Responds to Its Environment
Water crystal pictures also provide startling, physical evidence that the vibration of music and words dramatically affect the crystal structure and health of water.
Waters exposed to the music of Mozart, Bach and Beethoven have a beautiful, balanced, delicate crystal structure. When Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” is played to/through water, the crystals are clearly split in two in the photos. Do people become joyous and encouraged when listening to joyous music and encouraging words because the water that is 70% of our body goes through a positive change?
Water samples labeled with the words (and the vibrational human thought form) of Dirty, Demon, Adolph Hitler and “I Hate You” do not even form crystalline shapes and are chaotic in structure. The scattered and fragmented uncrystalized structure of water labeled with the sentiment “You Fool” closely matches the unformed-crystal pictures of the water exposed to heavy metal music, which is full of harsh condemnations. Crystals in water labeled with Beauty, Angel, Mother Teresa and “I Love You” are intricately and gracefully formed.
Water Is Alive and Intelligent
Emotos?s book provides further fascinating examples of water’s intelligent responsiveness to other forms of life. The shape of the crystals of water infused with specific flower aroma oils closely resembles the shape of the flower from which the oil comes. The distorted structure of water right after the devastating Kobe, Japan, earthquake transformed into beautiful, perfectly-formed crystals three months later after helping hands and sympathy from all over the world were given to the people of Kobe. When a Buddhist priest prayed for an hour over the polluted water in a lake behind a dam in Japan, the crystalline structure of the water changed from malformed and distorted to one of immense beauty and power. A distinctly visible aura appears around the water crystal in the photos.
Natural water crystals have a hexagonal, six-sided, core structure basic to all water crystals. However, after a Buddhist monk chanted a very specific, ancient prayer over water, the resulting crystalline structure changed to heptagonal?seven-sided. His prayer had been to the “Seven Goddesses of Fortune!”
Our Intimate Connection with Water
These groundbreaking water photos indicate that our human words, intentions and actions can make the water we consume more beautiful, clean, healthy and harmonious to our well-being. Also, these pictures of liquid crystals have a profound energizing effect on the people viewing them. Many people report feeling strong emotions and realizations rising up from the depth of their beings. Viewing the pictures, many people experience a gradual, yet distinct opening of their heart and perceptual awareness.
These amazing, affecting photos of water crystals clearly demonstrate that water is a mirror reflecting our human consciousness.

Acid, Is Acidity Killing You?
May 28, 2004 — From the book ALKALIZE OR DIE:
“The countless names of illness do not really matter. What does matter is that they all come from the same root cause…too much tissue acid in the body!” Dr. Theodore Baroody
This includes cancer, heart disease, stress, osteoporosis, a lack of energy as well as many others. A proper alkaline level also helps with
many other problems such as PMS, menopause and
radiation and works as an anti-inflammatory
(anti-arthritic).
From the book A NEW HEALTH ERA
“Now we depart from health in just the proportion to which we have allowed our alkalies to be dissipated by the introduction of acid-forming foods in to great amount..It seems strange to say
that all disease is the same thing, no matter what it’s myriad mode of expression, but it is verily so. William Howard Hay, M.D.
