Smoke?s Place, Inc. Announces Motivational Wellness for Youth

Boston, MA December 20 2003–Smoke?s Place, Inc. today announced a series of obesity awareness, management and prevention seminars for youth. Designed as motivational sessions for children and adolescents, each seminar can also be customized to accommodate the needs of a diverse range of audiences.

?Smoke?s Place realizes the imperative to provide such a needed service since obesity adversely impacts an incredible amount of young people. According to just about every U.S. government agency that reports on health and disease, young children and adolescents are now developing health problems that used to be generally associated with adults and senior citizens.? states Smokey Montgomery, President of Smoke?s Place, Inc. The American Obesity Association reports that ?Approximately 30.3 percent of children (ages 6 to 11) are overweight and 15.3 percent are obese. For adolescents (ages 12 to 19), 30.4 percent are overweight and 15.5 percent are obese.? The report also states ?Diabetes, hypertension and other obesity-related chronic diseases that are prevalent among adults have now become more common in youngsters.?

Montgomery continues, ?Furthermore, instead of slowing down, increasing obesity in youth is a disturbing trend that is on the rise.? According to yet another recent report1 ?Overweight adolescents often become overweight adults, with an increased risk for a wide variety of poor health outcomes including diabetes, stroke, heart disease, arthritis and certain cancers.2, 3 The immediate consequences of overweight in childhood are often psychosocial but also include cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and the precursors to diabetes.?4

?Many youth, that I encounter, have no real clue about the immediate and later in life consequences of being overweight, never mind being obese. Part of the Smoke?s Place mission is to shake them up a bit to make them face reality and then provide them with the good news ? there is a lot they can do to combat overweight and obesity. When they come to a Smoke?s Place seminar, they will have fun while learning how to be healthy and live longer.? concludes Montgomery.

I’m Using Self Hypnosis for Weight Loss Again - Successfully

So, everyone needs a little subconscious boost in their diet once in a while, right?   A little shot of willpower in the arm, a casual suggestion daily to the compelling subconscious mind that you must eat right and exercise to be the absolute best you that you can be?  Well, that’s precisely what I’ve needed lately and the instance came for me to get myself back on track after a weekend of binge and fast food eating due to a capability outage we had for a few days.

We only ate out pretty much for three days and I didn’t precisely manufacture the best choices considering I was out of sorts and pretty much had zero willpower.  Amazing how something as little as not having electric potential will twist you into thinking you can eat anything you want for a few days, that it won’t hurt.  Problem with that mentality is that it seems to never end after some poor days and you find that twenty pounds later, your “poor day” added up by moment.

With that in mind, and wanting to get back on track to ensure I didn’t put on anything more permanent than a little water weight, I pulled out my hypnotherapy for weight loss cd’s and listened to them daily again for the past few days.  certain suitable, I found that after even the first days of putting myself into a hypnotic, relaxed state and listening to the compelling suggestions, I didn’t actually want crappy, poor for me food, and I actually looked forward to working out instead of dragging myself to the gym at work that week.

All in all, I’d have to say that either self hypnosis for weight loss works considering you really truly believe it works, or there really is something to be said for the ability of your deepest mind centers as far as how what you believe controls your life and your fate. I’d prefer to believe it’s a little of both.

Regardless of the mechanisms that invent self hypnosis work for humans for all sorts of things, there is no denying it’s effectiveness on so many in losing weight, quitting smoking and doing so many other things that otherwise would be extremely hard without willpower coupled with true desire.

Aches, Pains, and Injuries

Being a Personal Fitness Professional, I hear from many people who are suffering from various aches and pains, and unfortunately are misinformed. One thing I am constantly hearing from people is “I’ve got a bad back,” or “just my old tennis elbow acting up”. This frustrates me because these people are misled and are often suffering unnecessarily.

My frustration is not with the person experiencing the problem, but with the Health and Medical Industry as a whole! Frequently, these people are diagnosed with conditions they don’t have such as Arthritis, Osteoporosis, and many others. Nearly all of the aches, pains, and Injuries people experience are caused by muscle imbalances!

The human body functions as a whole. The main reason people experience these problems are because certain muscles are pulling their body out of proper alignment. First, you must understand some basic human anatomy. Most importantly, how does a muscle function? Muscles are connected to bones in two places, the insertion and the origin. In order for movement to occur the muscles must contract or shorten, which pulls on one end or attachment.

Two things can cause a muscle to pull too much when it is not being asked to contract. The most common cause is poor posture or positioning. An example of this would be how the hip flexor muscles (the muscles in the top front of your thigh that bring your leg forward) shorten while sitting.

The more time you spend sitting the more the hip flexor muscles will tighten due to poor positioning. What’s worse is most of us spend a lot of time sitting! Whether it’s while driving, while at work, at home watching television, or at home on the computer! This sets you up for a big problem!

The other cause is a corresponding weakness, or lack of use in the opposing muscle groups. For example, the hamstring and gluteus muscles don’t get worked nearly as often as the hip flexors and quadriceps, unless of course one walked backwards. The pull of these muscles directly affects the positioning of the pelvis.

Think of a muscle imbalance as a tug of war. If one side is stronger it will over power the other muscle group. The tightening of the hip flexors pulls the front of the pelvis downward causing the lower back to arch excessively. Serious problem I This puts unnecessary pressure on the discs and also the muscles of the lower back! This is the number one cause of low back pain and injury!

Not only do muscle imbalances affect every joint of your body; they also affect your internal organs! For example, what do you think happens to the space between your internal organs when your low back muscles are pulling you to right? Your overall health is affected by muscle imbalances!

I’ve worked with hundreds of people who have been diagnosed with so called conditions and are pain free with in just a few weeks! In most cases, all I had them do was stretch the muscles that were pulling too much and strengthen the ones that weren’t pulling enough!

Have you ever been to a Chiropractor, Physical Therapist, or Orthopedic Surgeon? Did they explain what the cause of the problem was? Did they explain to you, which muscles were pulling too much? Did their treatment plan correct your condition, or did they just treat the symptom? The major problem is that most medical professionals don’t look at the body as a whole. They zoom in on your problem area (symptom), in our example the low back. Well, the cause of the problem is almost always the tightness of the hip flexors and quadriceps muscles, which are in the front of your body! Before you accept any diagnosis be sure that you have looked at all the possibilities.

Figuring out what is causing the problem (or will cause one in the future) is relatively easy. An extensive physical evaluation can be performed, which includes testing of muscular strength, flexibility, and function. Gait (walking) and biomechanics should also be assessed to note any deviations that are the result of current muscle imbalances and ones that may cause future problems. Once you know which muscles are too tight and which are too weak you can then begin correcting those Imbalances. All it takes is some stretching and strengthening in the right places, which can take just a few minutes a day!

Aloe Vera - No Wonder They Call It The ‘Miracle Plant’

Aloe Vera is a member of the Lily family. It is a succulent that looks a lot like a cactus and is known by various names such as the burnt plant, the miracle plant, the natural healer and the medicine plant. Although there are more than two hundred species of Aloe Vera, only a few have medicinal properties, and of these Aloe Vera Barbadensis is the most beneficial.

The Aloe Vera plant reaches maturity at about four years of age. The outer leaf is smooth and rubbery and inside is the gel and sap which is harvested, preserved and bottled to give either a juice or when combined with other ingredients creams, lotions and gels. About 96% of the plant is water. The rest is made up of minerals such as magnesium, zinc, copper, chromium and the antioxidant selenium, vitamins including the antioxidants C, E and beta carotene, 20 of the 22 amino acids required by the body including 7 of the 8 that cannot be manufactured by the body, sugars, enzymes and fatty acids. The combination of these elements has a more powerful effect together than they would individually. This is because each enhances the effect of the other, an occurrence that is known as synergism.

Aloe Vera works in two different areas; by promoting healing or preventing injury to the epithelial tissues (the skin, the lining of the gut, the bronchial tubes, etc) and by balancing the immune system when its antioxidants fight the free radicals produced by our metabolism and pollutants in the environment.

When taken internally, Aloe Vera is soothing to digestive tract irritations, such as colitis and peptic ulcers. The anti-inflammatory fatty acids are also helpful for the stomach, small intestine and colon. It alkalises the digestive juices preventing overacidity ? a common cause of indigestion. Amongst many other ailments that have been helped by Aloe Vera are diverticulitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, constipation and haemorrhoids. Conditions that are improved by balancing the immune system are arthritis, asthma, ME (post viral fatigue syndrome) and LE (lupus).

When applied to the skin Aloe Vera improves a large variety of skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis, ulcers, burns, stings, acne, bites, scrapes, abrasions, scalp care, sore muscles, cold sores, bruises, sprains and frostbite to name but a few!

More recent studies show Aloe Vera can help prolong survival time and stimulate the immune system of cancer patients. This is partly by fighting free radicals with its antioxidant properties and also by stimulating the white blood cells causing the release of immune-activating and anticancer substances such as interferons, interleukins and tumour necrosis factor. These properties of Aloe Vera have also made it an effective part of a nutrition support program for HIV patients; leading to fewer occurrences of infections such as thrush, fatigue and diarrhoea and an increase in the number of white blood cells meaning a boost to their immune system.
