Starting Off Day with Carbs : Not Good
Well, I must confess. My boyfriend and I have just indulged in a day of total diet debauchery, without an ounce of care for what is good for us, starting our day off with the worst foods you can imagine for beginning your day. First of all, there was not a good piece of protein to be found in our breakfast, where we ate at our local Cracker Barrel restaurant, which happens to have the best pancakes and maple syrup in our town.
He got bacon, and my awful excuse for protein was a pile of scrambled eggs with some processed American cheese thrown on top, which I barely even touched, instead opting for the luscious mounds of cheesy hash brown casserole and the buttery biscuits and pancakes. Yeah, real well rounded and nutritious, huh?
Needless to say, about an hour after we ate that carb filled breakfast - and none of it was the good kind of carbs with all that fiber and nutrition, oh no, we were ravenous once again, opting for yet anothe carby, fattening food when we went to the food court at the local mall, and got none other than Sbarros pizza, and to boot, a bread stick to go with it!
It seems that when you start your day off wrong, that is, with all simple carbohydrates like refined breads and sugary sweets like pancakes drenched in maple syrup - and no, we’re not even talking buckwheat pancakes which at least have a saving grace of bundles of fiber, we’re talking those delectable, fill your stomach for an hour next drop you like a rock in blood sugar, buttermilk variety!
So, in a decided effort to eat a little better for dinner, we decided to go to Boston Market for dinner and produce it a day of eating out. Hey, at least at Boston Market, you can guy some things that aren’t absolutely heinous for your health, like chicken and veggies and sometimes a low fat soup or salad.
However, of course, after having consumed starches and simple carbs all day, it seemed nearly impossible to not go for the carbs one more duration for dinner, so I got mashed potatoes. Hey, tomorrow’s a new day, right? I just need to form certain I start it with my usual low fat yogurt with berries and veggie sausage urls - now that’s a good breakfast that doesn’t leave you feening for rubbish all day enlarged!

Like To Eat - Go For It!
LIKE TO EAT ? GO FOR IT!
Do you want to have energy all day long, burn mega calories, strip body fat, AND have a healthy digestive system? Then eat ? and do it frequently! Yes, your body needs food and plenty of it to get through the daily grind. Eating four to six small, frequent meals per day is truly the key to a healthy body and a healthy lifestyle.
Eating frequently keeps adequate calories in the body. Most of us really don’t eat enough. We are all running around with a full daily schedule, stress, trying to exercise (or not) and expecting to do it all on a few meals per day. Yet we can’t figure out
why we’re not healthy or why we’re not losing weight. Focusing on small, frequent meals ensures that we are getting the full amount of calories we need.
You have to eat more, to burn more calories. Now this doesn’t mean four to six “junk” meals each day. It means reasonably sized meals that include protein, carbohydrates, and a LITTLE fat. When you restrict calories by not eating, your body refuses to give up
the extra body fat. So you must give your body what it wants, and it’ll burn calories more efficiently. By eating this way, you?ll also keep your energy level high all day ? no more mid-day fatigue. That?s the crash you feel when your blood sugar dips too low. Keeping food in your body at regular intervals will prevent that crash. It will also prevent trips to the vending machine. Because when the blood sugar dips, the brain receives a subconscious message to find sugar aka junk food.
You may not realize it, but food affects your mood. When you don’t eat or when you don’t eat healthy - your mood changes drastically. That’s your body trying desperately to tell you something - and your loved ones and coworkers get the brunt of it! Your mood isn?t the only area that will improve - the digestive system works better, too. Our digestive systems aren’t designed to work on overload. As a matter of fact, overeating/under eating is unhealthy for all of the internal organs. By eating only a few times a day, our natural reflex is to stuff ourselves. Give your body food in small amounts and your insides will appreciate it much more.
Let’s face it, eating more often takes time and thought. But it’s very possible and when you put a little thought into what you’re doing you tend to do it better. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you’ll begin to learn about nutrition when you focus on it a little bit. Once you begin eating frequently, your body will respond quickly. Pretty soon you won’t be able to go more than 3 hours without something to eat - that’s a good thing. Your body will tell you what it needs and when.
Eating in this way will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone. What have you got to loose - except weight and bad habits! Challenge yourself to this method and see what happens. It’ll also make a great topic for conversation.

How safe is your make-up?
Many women wear make-up every day. It enhances appearance and can add confidence. However many cosmetics and skin care preparations contain carcinogenic ingredients. ?
Foundation creams often contain bentonite which is used to put out fires. It suffocates the flames so that oxygen can’t get through to inflame the fire.?
In skincare preparations bentonite suffocates the skin, stopping it from breathing.
Liquid foundations may contain mineral oil which is a potential carcinogenic.
Most of us use a moisturiser every day on our skin in the hope of improving our skin and protecting it from the elements. However the majority of them contain molecules that are to large to enter the pores of the skin. As a result these creams sit on the surface of the skin gradually blocking the pores and glands.
The sweat glands are unable to work properly and the oil glands can’t drain effectively resulting in the build up of toxins and bacteria in the skin. This in turn can cause black heads, spots and a dull complexion.
Propylene glycol is also commonly found in skincare products. It’s a cosmetic form of mineral oil found in industrial antifreeze, and brake fluid. It acts as a moisture retainer by preventing the escape of water or moisture from the skin.
Material data safety sheets warn against skin contact with propylene glycol as it can be an iritant and cause liver abnormalities and kidney damage.
You would be better off drinking 2 litres of water a day to rehydrate the skin than spending a fortune on some of these expensive moisturisers.
Many eyeshadows and blushers contain talc which is very similar to asbestos. Talc is a known carcinogen and has been linked to ovarian and lung cancer. Numerous tests have shown a link between using talc in the genital area and ovarian cancer. It also posses a health risk when inhaled into the lungs.
Other powders found in these products contain artificial fragrances which is the most common cause of allergic reactions to cosmetics.
Mascara may contain alcohol, formaldehyde and plastic resins. Sensitivity to these ingredients can cause iritation to the eye in the form of redness, swelling and burning.
9%-25% of toxins that we are exposed to are absorbed into our bodies from cosmetics and personal care products that we use each day. The skin is very permeable and some chemicals can penetrate the skin in large amounts. This is especially true of facial make-up which is often worn all day.
The average woman has 4 times more toxins in her blood, and a hairdresser has 4 times more than the average woman.
Dr Samual Epstein is the chairman of the Cancer Prevention Coalition. He has researched into the use of toxins in our personal care and everyday products and has written many books including “The Safe Shopper’s bible”, and “Cancer in Britain”

Ultra-OPC-3 month supply $34.95. The OPC (Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins)leader is being challenged for the top spot! The antioxidant market in America heats up in an Ultra OPC battle.
November 27 2003–ISO-OPC at half the price of the other OPC and with 30% more OPC than any other on the market. Upstate Ventures, otherwise known as The Ultra OPC Connection , has worked hard in 2003 to keep up with demand for it’s #1 product, Ultra OPC. A 3 month supply is $34.88 with free S&H. They market in America, as well as outside the USA an isotonic product.
The saratoga-supplements.com, home of the Upstate Ventures/Saratoga Supplements web presence on the internet has seen great success in marketing Ultra OPC, an isotonic capable powdered OPC product that competes for customers in the OPC antioxidant arena. They have now improved the formula with better taste and 30% more OPC’s than any other powdered OPC on the market in america today.
Other players in this arena are many and varied, but the biggest competitor is, hands down, an OPC powdered supplement retailed by a MLM company Based in Greensboro NC. The MLM scheme has enjoyed a solid hold in the “OPC” battle for King of the OPC’s, but Ultra OPC is fast gaining on it.
Many of the other OPC users are switching to ISO-OPC, said Pat Baker, owner of the saratoga Supplements, based in Saratoga County NY. He continued by saying that the pattern of people ordering his #1 product is they try one bottle and then the next order they order a years supply (4-300 gram bottles).
The main difference between the two competing products is the iSO-OPC includes additional antioxidants, Vitamin C&E and it’s 50% less than the other OPC product. I think the taste of the ISO-OPC is more pleasant. I find the other powdered OPC to be bit tangy, somewhat sour to the taste. I never could get my children to take it, simply because of the taste.
The price difference is a big factor with our customers. OPC offered by the MLM company is priced at $64.95 and $7.50 shipping. The reason for the price difference is a Multi-level marketing system that must pay commission to many levels of distributors. ISO-OPC is a product marketed by retailers in stores and on the Internet. We have a lot more flexibility with our customers than MLM distributors.
In plans for 2004 expansion of sales, upstate Ventures plans to incorporate under the name Saratoga Supplements, enhance the formula for their product ISO-OPC, debut a customer referral plan that is getting a great response form their customers. They also have started an “Auto-ship” program where customers have the Ultra OPC automatically shipped them at customer-defined intervals.
‘Customer satisfaction and Loyalty is paramount to us. Customers speak and we listen, said Pat Baker, owner of Ultra OPC Connection. We love what we do and we plan to only get more customer service oriented.
What are Slim Shots?
Well, I have to confess, I’m just as curious about the latest and greatest findings in the diet pill world, including herbal weight loss pills, different natural types of appetite suppressants in various forms like liquid, pills, powders and even homeopathics ones that you hold under your tongue until they dissolve. So that new Slim Shots appetite suppressing product that I saw in the middle aisles at Wal-mart just the other day - you know, the displays of items that they know are bound to get the attention of the dieters and summer conscious humans?
I plus noticed the steep price, which was around twenty five bucks for only a 21 day supply of the shots, which arised to look like they were the size of coffee creamers you’d get at restaurants, or the kind of liquid creamer you get with your coffee at McDonalds and other fast food restaurants. I was reading the labels, hoping to find some breakthrough or interesting info on why these might be worth the price, other than their novel approach at getting public to buy them by putting them in a one shot container and calling them “shots”, appealing to the novelty lover in all of us - including me!
However, I couldn’t find anything out about the ingredients - at least not any that I thought were the active ingredients which made the appetite suppressing quality of them work, considering it was called a “proprietary blend”, which means they did not reveal what was in that proprietary blend on the label, leaving the buyer to wonder what precisely it was they were ingesting.
However, the packaging did state that it was “clinically proven” to reduce appetite by about 30% when the product was taken in the dawn. I read some reviews online and couldn’t find much except that the product worked for some society, and that it tasted a lot like milk of magnesia, with not a lot of flavor but a thicker consistency. whether anyone has any reviews of the product or has tried it, please post them here so others can read them whether they’re thinking of dropping a lot of money and want to get info before doing so.

Rabbi Runs in ING New York City Marathon To Raise One Million Dollars For Israel.
New York City, NY August 4, 2004 -? A Rabbi, an activist, an educator and an athlete, Rabbi Eric Ertel announced today that he will be running in his very first ING New York City Marathon on Sunday November 7th. Armed with only a relentless drive and equal determination to raise one million dollars for peace in The State of Israel.
When asked why he chose the ING New York City Marathon, Eric responded, ?Each of us has our own talents and skills that can be used to help make a difference, running this race is my talent and skill. Helping Israel would be my little contribution in trying to help the world.?
The greatest thing that the United States shares with Israel is the war against terrorism; the only difference is that Israel battles this war on their streets every single day. Eric spent seven years living in Israel and experienced the devastation and destruction of these terror attacks, first hand. He watched the Israeli citizen?s quality of life and sense of security deteriorate. In addition to gaining financial support, Eric is committed to creating a broader awareness and support of the challenges facing The State of Israel?s fight for peace.
One of Eric?s greatest passions has always been Israel and the well being of its people. Eric brings that passion and inspiration to this race, because in this race Eric will be ?Running For Israel?, with a goal of raising one million dollars from corporate and individual donors. The beneficiaries of his 26.2-mile run are three charities dedicated to improving the image and quality of life for Israeli citizens both locally and globally.
Running for Israel has chosen three very powerful charities to benefit from the funds that are raised. All funds will be distributed between Hasbara Fellowships, Honest Reporting and Keren Y & Y.
About the charities
University campuses in the United States have become the breeding ground for the violent anti-Israel bias. Hasbara Fellowships was started in 2001 in conjunction with Israel?s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The program brings hundreds of students to Israel every year, giving them the information and the tools to return to their campuses as leaders in the fight for Israel?s image.
In addition to fighting an anti-terror war, Israel has been fighting a media war. Honest Reporting is one of the worlds largest media watch groups and has assembled over 100,000 members to scrutinize the media for anti-Israel bias, and responds directly to relevant news agencies.
The severe cuts in government support and the sharp rise in the price of basic foods has made it extremely difficult for many families in Israel. Keren Y & Y gives ?cash? in the form of coupons, which ensures that all contributions, go directly into the homes of needy families. These cash coupons are redeemable at local supermarkets.
?One day there will be peace in Israel and on that day everyone who contributes, even in the smallest of ways, will be able to look back and know that they had something to do with that,? said Rabbi Ertel. ?I?m just an ordinary guy, who?s trying to accomplish an extra-ordinary thing.?
Individuals will be able to contribute on-line at www.runningforisrael.com, which will provide information about the charities and volunteer opportunities. Donations can also be mailed to Running For Israel, 313 West 83rd Street, New York, NY 10024. Corporate donations and interested partners are asked to please contact Tracia Collichio, Running For Israel at 212.579.1388 ext 20.
Running for Israel is supported by Aish HaTorah a non-profit, apolitical, international network of Jewish educational centers, providing opportunities for Jews of all backgrounds to discover the wisdom and beauty of their heritage in an atmosphere of open inquiry and mutual respect. Over 25 branches in 8 countries inspire over 100,000 people each year with the meaning of being Jewish.
