What On Your Plate Today.
What On Your Plate Today.
Mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy, is caused by a misshapen protein that eats holes in a cow’s brain. Government officials say there is no threat to the food supply because the infected cow’s brain, the spinal cord and the lower part of the small intestine where scientists say the disease is found were removed before the cow was sent for processing.
Still, as a precaution, the Agriculture Department has recalled more than 10,000 pounds of meat from about 20 cows slaughtered with the Holstein on Dec. 9. That meat was distributed to eight western states and Guam, although officials said most went to Oregon and Washington.
So are you eating beef at your house today. Well lots of school children are still eating beef as a part of the school lunch programs in the schools. Schools get a combination of reimbursement for federally approved meals and food directly bought by the government including a good portion of the beef served in schools. The government bought an estimated 133 million pounds of beef for schools in 2003.
Much of this meat is frozen and it will be used in your childs lunches in the next months. So even if you are not serving beef at home then have you checked your childs lunch menus for this month.
I bet if you do you find beef is envolved somewhere.
As a concerned parent wouldn’t it be wise to make some objection to your child being served beef at school? Just a question.

First-Time Heart Attack Survivors Have a 500% Greater Risk of Sudden Death–New Book Aims At Reducing Risk?
Camarillo, CA February 25, 2004–What Readers are Saying about Heart Attack Survivor…
Dick Butkus, NFL Hall of Famer and Chicago Bear Legend has graciously said about “Heart Attack Survivor” — I picked up your book at Steve Thomas BMW last Thurs. Friday I had a flight from LAX to Pittsburgh and I couldn’t put the book down the whole trip! So much of the “stuff” one goes thru after an attack or even the 5-way bypass I experienced was dealt with in a very thought provoking manner. It is Sunday night and I have tried a few of the suggestions and can honestly say that there has been a change in my attitude in two short days. I have roughly 787 marbles to go! Thank you for reminding me to make them all count,
Dr. Richard Carlson, author of “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” — says about Heart Attack Survivor - a field guide “Practical, helpful, and full of great life-affirming advice. Anyone with a heart, healthy or not, will enjoy this book!”
Ted Gallup, a physical therapist and the Wellness Director at a large Nursing Facility — said about “Heart Attack Survivor” I am a 43 year old man who survived a massive heart attack on Dec 1, 2003. Being a physical therapist and the Wellness Director at a large Nursing Facility, I have the background knowledge to lead a healthy life, but I succombed to poor genetics. I have been a runner for 30 years, practiced and taught yoga and tai chi, and ate lowfat healthy foods for years, but still stress and family history lead to this cardiac event. My good fortune is that my pre-condition was so good that my recovery is expected to be speedy and hopefully full. I am focusing on continuing to do all the right things, and in addition attempt to lower my stress levels. Your book has been my constant companion this last week as I rest and begin cardiac rehab. I recommended the field guide to my cardiac nurse. Thank you for being out there! I am sure the book will make a difference in my life beyond what it already has.

Sugar Free Gum as Appetite Control?
We all seem to come up with our own little tricks on how to get ourselves to exercise portion control, to eat less, and to control our appetites which sometimes may seem out of our control . Chewing sugar free gum has proven to be a great way for some public to avoid continuing to eat when they think they are hungry, or to eat after a meal, something like dessert or a sweet drink.
Sugar free chewing gum, or particularly hoodia gum (my favorite for controlling the appetite, it’s sugarless, and it contains the potent appetite control of hoodia), does something that occupied our mouth, and prevents us from eating considering we have an oral fixation. It’s true that many citizens eat simply considering they feel like they want to keep their mouth busy, something that is called oral fixation.
The only poor thing about sugarless gum, and I actually experience that as well, is that it contains ingredients like malitol and sorbitol that keep it soft and sweet longer (it’s a sugar alcohol), is that is causes gas in a lot of folks. I notice it even whether I choose one piece of most sugarless gum. I’ve found it very hard to find gums that are artificially sweetened with something like splenda or stevia, well, at least gums that aren’t like 3 bucks a pack, so it’s easier to just get the stuff with malitol or sorbitol that’s stocked on every shelve.
I’m hoping some of the chewing gum companies wise up and realize that the sugar alcohols cause some serious gastrointestinal discomfort for some (like they do for me), even in small doses, and they start to form sugarless gums with safer and less irritating artificial sweeteners, but I won’t hold my breath since every separate sugarless gum now seems to use the malitols and sorbitols.
Nonetheless, sugarless gums can help give you that little bit of sweetness, and they additionally occupy your mouth so you can’t be eating calories when you’re not supposed to, so many humans say it’s an integral part of their portion controlling.
