Range of drugs cheaper and more available

A new study reported in the February 2008 print edition of The FASEB Journal (www.fasebj.org) describes a scientific advance that should reduce the cost and increase the availability of a wide range of drugs. In the report, University of Pennsylvania scientists describe how they used gene treatment to reduce the moment it takes to breed large animals capable of producing therapeutic proteins in their milk, such as insulin or those that fight cancer. that represents a significant milestone in drug development, as current methods involve cloning, which takes more moment and generally costs more……..

Horizon Ellipticals Killing the Competition?

I wouldn’t doubt it.  I love my Horizon elliptical machine.  Not only is it a smooth ride with no maintenance, but it feels extremely sturdy and professional to get on it.  It’s plus quiet, and has just the right amount of features on it to not be too confusing, but plus to be extremely efficient at getting the workout you want out of about a thirty minute session.

It’s funny, considering a friend of mine was just telling me that she likes the treadmill better considering the elliptical machine seems to hard for her.  I told her that I used to think an elliptical was one of the toughest cardio workouts I had ever had, and now I can whiz through a half hour on the thing with no thoughts.  Don’t get me wrong, some days it’s not “easy”, but it’s plus not backbreakingly hard like it was when I first started.

It just goes to show that an elliptical provides a superior workout to the treadmill, considering it’s easy on the joints, but it provides an excellent workout and burns tons of calories considering you are in constant motion.  It plus is great for women who don’t want to bulk up, but instead want that “dancer’s body” look.  That’s why I use my Horizon elliptical, considering when I use other exercise equipment, it tends to bulk my legs up since I have a lot of muscle in my legs to start with, and want to keep the feminine look.

NEW WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM OFFERS A HIGHLY PERSONALIZED DIET PLAN BASED ON The RESULTS OF a VALIDATED DIET PERSONALITY TEST

SAN FRANCISCO, CA August 19, 2004 — Diet.com today launches its beta version of an exciting new weight loss program, the Personality Type Diet Plan, which offers a proven long-term weight loss solution using a personality test, highly customized weight loss strategies, personalized meal plans and social networking.

The Personality Type Diet approach was created by Dr. Robert Kushner, one of the nation?s leading obesity experts, author of the recently released American Medical Association?s Physician?s Obesity Treatment Guide, and author of The Personality Type Diet.

?It is critical to first identify the eating, exercise, and coping patterns that created the weight gain initially,? said Dr. Kushner, medical director of both Diet.com and the Wellness Institute at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. ?It is easier to lose weight when you have strategies that can transform these lifestyle patterns. Learning to manage these patterns will prevent the inevitable weight regain and keep the pounds off for good.?

Diet Personality Test ? a Cornerstone of the New Weight Loss Program

The Personality Type Diet approach begins with an innovative 70-question Personality Test that pinpoints each individual?s Diet Personality Profile. Dieters are then provided with a personalized weight loss program including a meal plan specifically based on his or her eating pattern, customized step-by-step weight loss strategies and action steps that help modify self-defeating behaviors. The Diet Personality Test was validated by a 2002 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Vol. 75, No. 2 (S), 2002)

?I was able to eat a little bit of ice cream every night and still lost almost 50 pounds,? said Amanda, a successful Personality Type dieter. ?The Personality Type Diet gave me a new way to live that allows me to be healthy and happy all year long, and that?s quite a gift.?

Scientifically Proven Weight Loss Method

There are numerous ways by which folks can lose weight. There are weight loss programs, various diets, pills, drinks, and many exercise programs that claim to be successful. When you reseach any of these programs, you will always find testimonials from humans who claim to have had success. Reviewing aa the successful weight loss results makes it difficult to decide which one fits your needs and life style and will be successful for you.

According to WebMD, it has been scientifically proven: The key isn’t just what you eat, it’s what you write. I mention quite frequently, the importance of documenting what you eat and drink everyday. A food journal is the key to success on any weight loss program you chose.

Through the study, it has been noted the less you document in your food journal, the less weight you will lose.

The bottom line is, once you have chosen a weight loss program, start your food diary and faithfully and honestly track your food intake. that is one reason Weight Watchers Program is a successful diet program, it asks participants to track what they eat.

I additionally propose writing it down before you eat. It will invent you think twice. Perhaps you will decide you don’t need that ice cream bar and eat some jello instead.

Cinnamon a Natural Appetite Suppressant?

I had read in a couple of different places, both online and in magazines, that cinnamon was being hailed as a mild appetite suppressant, as well as a stabilizer of blood sugar.  Mind you, there is a HUGE connection within blood sugar levels and starvation, hence the reasons for folks with unstable blood sugar to have ravenous appetites much of the date.  So that connection amoung starvation, appetite and blood sugar levels that has been insinuated about the common spice cinnamon does assemble sense logically.  But does it work?

Well, I set out to figure that out, and here’s my conclusion about whether cinnamons naturally suppresses the appetite.  I found that I think it does, although it seems fairly short lived, so for me, I did have to keep taking the cinnamon to achieve constant results.

Here’s what I did.  I actually had a small shaker of cinnamon in my desk at work which I had gone through a phase using in my coffee and hot chocolate for a while, so I decided I would take a small dose of cinnamon in the with my breakfast to see whether it staved off my usuall “mid morning” starvation, and voila, it did seem to lessen my starvation, as well as prevent me from getting the shakes, which I will usually get around ten to eleven, since I eat very early in the daylight - around seven, and I’m the type of person who does have to eat at frequent intervals to keep my blood sugar steady.

I noticed that lack of shakiness and seeming evenness of mood and concentration all through the AM, when usually I’d be thinking about food already by about ten o’clock, since I do need to eat every so often.  I just took probably not even a fourth of a teaspoon, but I took it straight - I didn’t mix it with anything, I just shook it out onto my hand and licked it right off!  Not the tastiest thing, but it’s plus not horrible - it is, after all - cinnamon.

So whether you’re looking for an experiment on how to naturally suppress the appetite, and you have some cinnamon laying around, there’s no harm in seeing what it does or doesn’t do for you, that is whether you can stomach the taste of cinnamon, and I don’t know many public who don’t like the spice.  Just imagine you’re eating a slice of pumpkin pie and that may help it go down.  Don’t take it with sugar though, or you will defeat the purpose.

CTS: carpal tunnel syndrome (repetitive motion injury) ~ alternate treatments

Carpal tunnel syndrome (”CTS”) is certainly not a life-threatening condition, but it can be life-altering and should be treated seriously.

Symptoms

Most people realize that something is amiss when they either wake up with (or are woken up by) pain and/or numbness in one or both hands. Take note if the “pins and needles” extend to your little finger, as your doctor will need that information to make a correct diagnosis.

Common tasks such as driving a car, sweeping, holding a book, sewing or pushing a stroller become uncomfortable or even impossible as the affected person is unable to grasp or to feel the object in her hands.

Causes

Carpal tunnel syndrome is linked most often to obesity and to any repetitive motion (such as typing). Physically, it is caused when the wrist tunnel pinches a nerve and, left untreated, CTS can cause permanent damage. The condition does worsen over time and some activities exacerbate the condition, so if you suspect that you have a repetitive motion injury, don’t let it go either undiagnosed or untreated.

Treatment

Immediate rest of the injured wrist is usually called for, keeping it in a neutral position (not flexed or extended) so that the carpal tunnel is unconstricted, giving the nerve as much room as possible. Moderate Vitamin B-6 therapy might be suggested, but take note that evidence of relief is anecdotal and that there are warnings of high usage linked to cancer.

Use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs help alleviate symptoms and pain, although personally I found stretching exercises and icing to be of more help.

In some cases, surgery may be the only answer, but recovery is difficult: painful and inconvenient. A good friend of mine recalls having to get her bra fastened “for the longest time” by her husband - a minor point, perhaps, but everyday tasks can become quite infeasible, especially if you are a parent with young children at home. Speak to your doctor about endoscopic instead of open carpal tunnel release in order to minimize trauma and speed convalescence.
