Heart Attack Grill owner won’t go changin’

Oh, ho, ho. that is too funny. Thanks, Fox News. According to that worthy network, the owner of the Heart Attack Grill of Phoenix, Arizona, won’t be changing his fat-laden menu. Nope. Jon Basso - who likes to signal himself “Dr. Jon” - seems to see himself as a sort of last bastion of American manhood, standing strong against the forces of heart healthy eating. To him, heart healthy means pointless political correctness, and he don’t like it!

All the main dishes at the Heart Attack Grill are proudly cooked in lard. In addition, other foods contain dangerous trans fats. But Basso says he won’t cut them out just to (in his words) “meet societal tastes.” When you go out to eat, opines Basso, you should go to have fun and “eat to the fullest. And don’t distress about what citizens are telling you.” Pure lard, says Basso, gives meat a “taste worth dying for.” That’s why Basso’s Quadruple Bypass Burgers are staying on the menu. It’s about freedom, humans.

Basso has just published a book: The Heart Attack Grill Diet. Good Lord.

Are Weight Loss Supplements Worth It?

Are Weight Loss Supplements Worth It?

What do you think of the hundreds of weight loss supplements out there on the shelves today? Are they worth the money? Will they actually help you lose weight? How do you know which ones are going to work for you? Is there any proof that these products work?

I’ve taken some time and researched some of the most popular product to try to find the answers for you. The truth is, most products won’t help you lose anything but money. There are a few, however, with some research behind them that prove that they actually work.

What are these supplements that work? It seems that only four products hold the best promise for those of us who want to slim down. They are Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), Hydroxycitic Acid (HCA), phaseolomine, and possibly 5-HTP.

1. Conjugated Linoleic Acid, CLA, has a number of research studies behind it. It is a fatty acid that has been found to reduce cancer risks, body fat and to increase lean muscle tissue. The Journal of Nutrition reported a Scandanavian Research team found CLA to increase the lean body mass of humans and also to decrease the fat mass. Subjects also had lower blodd fat and cholestrol after taking CLA. CLA does occur naturally in meat and dairy products, but the levels are pretty low. Also, if you’re following a healthy low-fat diet, you tend to not get as much meat and dairy, so supplementation may be the answer for getting a healthy dose of CLA.

2. Hydroxycitic Acid, HCA, is derived from a fruit, Garcinia cambogia or Malabar tamarind. It seems to work by inhibiting an enzyme that converts carbohydrates to fat. It also seems to suppress the appetite. Studies on humans have had mixed results with one study showing significant weight loss in participants. Another study using a high fiber diet, showed HCA had no effect on weight loss. Critics think the high fiber diet prevented absorbtion of the HCA. So, if you’re on a high fiber diet, HCA may not be for you.

3.Phaseolomine is derived from the white kidney bean. It works by reducing your body’s absorbtion of starchy carbohydrates. Since you absorb fewer calories, you lose weight. Seems like this supplement would be great to take if you knew you were going to indulge. Research has also shown that you burn more fat while taking phaseolomine. Subjects in one study lost 10% of their body fat in 30 days. Phaseolomine is typically found in carb blocker products.

4.5HTP works by increasing the level of Serotonin in the brain resulting in more stable emotions, better sleep and weight loss. I take 5HTP myself and have found it to be an excellent appetite suppresant as well as a mild mood booster. In one study where women were given either a placebo or 5HTP and a 1200 calorie diet, those who took the placebo lost 2.28 pounds and those who took 5HTP lost 10.34 pounds. This was accomplished in 6 weeks. Are there other supplements that work? There may be others that will stand the test of time and research, but for now these are the best non-prescription supplements I’ve found to enhance your weight loss efforts. Good luck losing the weight you want to lose!

Are you an emotional eater?

I have found that the 3 main culprits for weight gain are overeating, senseless eating, and emotional eating.  Take that quiz to see whether you are an emotional eater:

  1. Do you think about food often or all the instance?
  2. Do you eat to relieve tension, nag, or upsets?
  3. Do you eat when you’re bored?
  4. Do you continue to eat after you feel full, sometimes to the point of feeling sick?
  5. Does eating relieve your anxiety?
  6. Do you eat without thinking?
  7. Do you have to clean your plate?
  8. Do you eat in secret or hide food?
  9. Do you eat quickly, shoving in the food?
  10. Do you feel guilty after you eat?
  11. Do you eat small portions in front of humans, but go back for more food when folks aren’t around?
  12. Do you binge (eat large amounts of food in a short time)?
  13. Can you eat one serving, or do you eat the entire amount (a bag of cookies, or the whole half gallon of ice cream)?
  14. Do you feel out of control and impulsive when eating?
  15. Do you eat when you’re not physically hungry?
  16. Do you lie to yourself about how much you really eat?
  17. Do you have trouble tolerating negative feelings?
  18. Do you have impulse problems in other areas of your life (shopping, gambling, sex, alcohol, pornography, drugs)?
  19. Have you been on numerous diets by the years?
  20. Do you experience constant weight fluctuations?

If you answered yes to some of these questions, thereupon your emotions often trigger your desire to eat.  In order to address that, you need to get to the bottom of why you are eating.  Most often, there are some unresolved emotional issues in your life that you need to deal with in order to stop the cycle of emotional eating.

10 Health Fitness Tips

More than any other time in history, people are all trying to have the best, healthiest body possible. The health and fitness industries are making billions of dollars every year on herbal supplements, fitness equipment, gyms, and special diets. If you watch TV or read magazines, there is always some intriguing commercial asking for money to help you get into shape.

Now that you have made a commitment to take care of your body, both internal and external, it is critical to your overall health that you do it the right way. Here are some tips for both health and fitness that will help you lose weight, discover ways to maintain a better healthy lifestyle, and be in the best shape of your life - all the smart way!

1. Bicycling

When you ask many adults when the last time they rode a bike is, they cannot answer. Although bicycling is a favorite pastime, many adults do not take advantage of this great option for exercise. Not only does bike riding exercise the body and build a stronger cardiovascular system, it allows you to get out and enjoy nature, fresh air, and see new sites.

2. Jogging or Walking
Both jogging and walking are GREAT ways to get fit. Not only do they tone the muscles, relieve stress, create a healthier heart, and improve lung capability, they make you look wonderful, which in turns helps you get excited about doing other exercise for fitness.

3. Swimming
Swimming is an excellent way to get into and stay in shape. If you do not own a pool, many high schools have aquatic centers, or there is always the YWCA or YMCA, or your local gym. Many offer water aerobic classes that will help you tighten your body, lose weight, and get a good overall workout.

4. Tennis Anyone
Tennis is not only a fun sport, but also a great way to exercise. You do not have to be a Venice Williams to play; in fact, you do not even have to be good. Just running after the ball alone will help get you into shape. This is a great way to strengthen your cardiovascular system and lose weight. You can find tennis courts in just about every city and if you would like to play but have no idea how, lessons are reasonable.

5. Dancing
Dancing is so much fun and whether you enjoy a slow, Ballroom dance or a nightclub packed with people all moving to heart-pumping techno, as long as you are moving, it really does not matter what type of dance or music. The whole idea is to move your body. Dancing has long been recommended as an avenue to fitness.

6. VCR
If you have a VCR or DVD, rather than just using it for your favorite comedy or action-packed movie, try sticking in some good workout tapes. Even taking 15 minutes every day to workout will get you started. Try that for two weeks and you will be surprised at the results. Once you see that 15 minutes a day makes a difference, you will be encouraged to increase the time spent.

7. Abdominal Crunches
While you may not end up with a washboard stomach, you can do some things to get your abdomen in better shape. Crunches have long been a favorite for many athletes for the very reason that they work. Lying on your back with knees bent, keeping feet flat on the floor, cross your hands across your chest and then curl your torso, rolling from your sternum toward your hips. Do this slowly and start out with a set of ten crunches in three reps. In other words, do ten crunches, wait a minute, do ten more, wait a minute, and then do the final ten. As you get accustomed to these, you can increase both the number of sets and reps.

8. Squats
Squats are excellent for glutes, hamstrings, quads, and calves. With your feet standing firm and spread apart about two feet, bend your knees slightly. Then, very smoothly, you will squat toward the floor without going all the way down. This usually takes some practice but within a short period, you will enjoy the benefits.

9. Tricep Press
Having firm arms is something that many people focus on when exercising. For an Overhead Tricep Press, standing on the floor with your feet about two feet apart, knees slightly bent, you will extend your arms over your head. Keep your elbows locked and then very slowly lower your hands behind your head. You want to do this with some type of weight, but small weights like one to five pounds. If you do not have weights of your own, you can hold a one-pound of vegetables, which will work perfectly.

10. Get to the Gym
Working out at home is a good option and for some people, they are committed enough to actually make it work. However, for the majority of people wanting to get into shape, the inspiration, competitiveness, and encouragement received from working out in a gym is the way to go. Although it will require a small investment, make the decision to find a gym that offers state-of-the-art equipment, qualified staff, and fun classes where you can enjoy working out.

By taking care of your body through good health habits and fitness, you will live a happier, better, and longer life!

Today?s Family to feature Truestar Health Inc.

Deerfield Beach, FL July 10, 2004 — Platinum Television Group is pleased to announce the selection of Truestar Health Inc. for its innovative, educational television series, Today?s Family. The world?s most comprehensive online health and personal guidance system will be featured in a segment on ?Childhood Obesity.?

Truestar Health encourages viewers to ?take the first steps toward healthy living? by making changes recommended on their site, which features self-help tests and self-improvement. ?We are committed to improving lives daily through the harmonization of the five essential components to optimal health,? says Tim Mulcahy, the company?s founder and most verbal proponent. The five elements are: nutrition, exercise, sleep, vitamins and attitude.

They offer a 30-day free trial ?that will change your life.? Imagine a site that not only offers information, plans, shopping lists, online chats with professionals, guidance, sleep aids, personalized exercise programs, and much more?but also a place that harmonizes all these factors into a proprietary total health system called the Synergistic Personal Training System?for adults and children.

Indeed, Truestar Kids and Teens is a revolutionary program that addresses the total health needs of youngsters from age 2 to 18. In today?s fast-paced, commercialized world it can be difficult to ensure that children eat well and exercise regularly. The site?s goal is to educate and inspire children to pursue wellness by implementing healthy and fun meals, supplement plans, exercise and sleep programs and motivation strategies. Then, kids score their daily successes with the Truestar Daily Life Improvement Checklist. This will encourage them to set and pursue goals and achieve their best every day! As the only site to offer a meal plan personalized for kids, according to gender, age, height, lifestyle, activity level, and more, Truestar Health will feature the results of a focus group with 10 children, aged 8-16, using their plan for six weeks on Today?s Family.

Unlike many other online health resources, Truestar Health is dedicated to improving the health of an entire family, regardless of age or health goals. They hope to encourage a lifetime of healthy habits.

Launched in 2001, Truestar Health?s site has been ranked within the top 5000 in the world in traffic.
